"Plain fresh bread, its crust shatteringly crisp. Sweet cold butter. There is magic in the way they come together in your mouth to make a single perfect bite."--Ruth Reichl

Personal Notes:
This is Carol's original recipe. We have used this bread forever! It is a SUPR-W club original from Carol when she made the boiled shrimp on the newspaper covered table that we all have made since and loved. I have changed some things over the years: I also add 1/4 tsp. basil and some coarse pepper. I also add about 1/3 c. parmesan cheese (kraft) to the butter mix and skip the 1/2 c. on top of the bread. I skip the garlic clove and use garlic powder to taste. I also never measure the herbs--I just add whatever. The bread also changes-ciabetta is good and I just slice bread horizontally, cut into serving sizes, spread the butter mix, and use a toaster oven (with a tray) to cook. Try hot dog buns if you're desperate! All the grandkids love it. Do watch the toaster oven-I am known as the "Queen of Burn" within the family.
