1 head red cabbage
2 tbsp. vinegar
1/4 cup sugar -white or brown
1/4 cup butter
1 tsp. salt
1/2 cup red curant jelly or juice
1 apple cubed

šShred cabbage -add rest of ingedients and cool slowly.for about 1 hr. I always made it in the crockpot on low-the extra freezes well .

My mother made a lot of sauerkraut from the garden cabbage. We didn't all like it, but it was food. I live in a Danish community and married into a Danish family and this is a must for all the Danes at Christmas. I like this better than sauerkraut. Our local store has the canned red cabbage during Christmas , so all you need to do is add some sugar and vinegar,etc. That is what I do now. My grandson's fiance is Lithuanian and they make a similiar version. .
