1/3 cup butter
2/3 cup brown sugar, firmly packed
2 eggs
3/4 cup milk
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 cups flour
4 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
3/4 cup berries(any fresh berry)



Topping
1 tablespoon sugar
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon

1 Preheat oven to 375
2 Cream together butter and brown sugar until light and fluffy
3 Beat in eggs, then milk and vanilla(mixture may curdle)
4 Sift together flour,baking powder and salt. Add to mixture all at once and stir just enough to dampen dry ingredients. Don't try to beat out lumps.
5 Grease 12 large muffin tins and fill halfway with batter. Place heaping spoonful of berries in centre of batter and continue to fill tins with remaining batter.
6 Make topping by combining sugar and cinnamon:sprinkle over batter (optional)
7 bake in 375F oven for 20 -25 minutes until risen and mixture springs back when lightly touched.

( frozen berries may be used.strawberries and raspberries need to be thawed but other berries frozen.)
