1/2 c.warm water
2 pkgs.dry yeast
2 c. milk
1/2 tsp. salt,
1/2 c. sugar
2 T.lard
1 c.currants or raisins
3 eggs beaten
4 to 4 1/2c. flour
1/4 tsp.cardamon crushed (or cinnamon)

Soak 1/2c.warm water and 2pkgs.dry yeast. Bring to boil 2 cups milk. Cool. Add 1/2tsp.salt,1/2c. sugar,2 T.lard ,1c.currants or raisins,3 eggs beaten,4 to 4 1/2c. flour,1/4tsp.cardamon crushed (or cinnamon). Mix all together with spoon, let rise, stir down, let rise again. Drop by tablespoon into deep fat fryer. While still warm roll in sugar.

I remember my Mom,Arlene Elwell,making Fudgens when I was growing up. It seems like she always made them around Christmas time. I like them with the raisins the best. This was a recipe from my Grandma Walters so I am sure it is a German recipe.
