2 c. navy beans (pea beans)
boiling water
1/4 c. molasses (Green Label)
3 tbsp. sugar
1 tsp. salt
pepper
1 large onion, sliced
1/2 lb. chunk bacon (or more)

Directions:
Directions:
Put beans in 4 qt. slow cooker. Pour boiling water over beans until covered by about 1-1/2 inches. Let stand for 1 hour or more, covered, on LOW.

Stir in molasses, sugar, salt, pepper, and onion. Cut up the chunk bacon and put on top of mixture.

Cook on LOW for 10-12 hours. DO NOT stir during this time.

Ladle off the fat from the bacon before stirring and serving.

Great Grandma always used a regular "bean pot" and cooked for 12-15 hours.

Double the recipe to fit a 6 qt. slow cooker and freeze the extras.
