1/2 cup shortening
1/2 tsp. salt
1--Egg
1/3 cup sugar
1 tsp. vanilla
1 1/2 cup sifted flour.

Directions:
Directions:
Stir the shortening until it is light and creamy. Gradually add sugar. Mix in salt and vanilla. Beat the egg and add it to the batter, stirring well. Add flour. Stirr until all ingredients are well blended. Drop teaspoons of batter, several inches apart, on greased cookie sheet. Put a damp cloth over a drinking glass, and press gently on each cookie, until it is flat. Bake at 375 degrees for about 10 minutes. ---from Sunshine Workers Extension Club Cook Book, compiled 1952.
