4 squares (4 oz.) of unsweetened chocolate
1 cup shortening
2 cups sugar
4 eggs, well beaten
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1-1/4 cups sifted flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 cup chopped walnuts
Chocolate Frosting:
2 squares (2 ounces) unsweetened chocolate
3 tablespoons hot water
1 tablespoon butter
2 cups sifted confectioners' sugar
1/2 teaspoon vanilla
1 egg (beaten)

Directions:
Directions:
Combine chocolate and shortening in top of a double boiler, and melt over boiling water. Add sugar; mix well. Add eggs and vanilla, then flour and salt, stirring thoroughly with each addition. Remove from heat, add chopped nuts. Spread batter in a well-greased 13 x 9 inch glass baking dish. Bake in a moderately hot oven (400 degrees) for about 18 minutes. Remove from heat and allow to cool. Frosting is melted over boiling water. Blend chocolate, hot water, and butter. Cool and add sugar, vanilla, and egg. Mix well. When cake is cool, spread with chocolate frosting and cut into 32 pieces, topping each one with a walnut half.
