3/4 cup sifted flour
1 cup sugar
5 tablespoons cocoa
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup shortening
2 eggs, unbeaten
1 teaspoon vanilla
1/2 cup chopped nuts, if desired

Directions:

1. Preheat oven to 350º. Grease bottom of 8-inch square pan. Have all ingredients at room temp.

2. Place all ingredients in large bowl. Beat at low speed to blend, then at medium speed for 3 minutes, scraping bottom and sides of bowl occasionally. Bake for 30 minutes.

From Debbie: Old recipe Mom got from Liz Dunn. We made tons of these, and ALWAYS doubled the recipe, using a 13x9-inch pan instead.
