2 1/4 c. whole bran
1 c. buttermilk
1/3 c. molasses
1/4 c. firmly packed brown sugar
1 c. sifted regular flour
1 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. salt
1 egg, slightly beaten
1/4 c. shortening, melted

Directions:
Directions:
Mix bran, buttermilk, molasses, and brown sugar in a small bowl; let stand until liquid is absorbed
Sift flour, baking powder, soda, and salt into a large bowl.
Stir egg and melted shortening into bran mixture. Add all at once to flour mixture; stir lightly with a fork just until evenly moist. Spoon into greased medium size muffin tins; filling each 2/3 full
Bake in a hot oven @ 400º for about 20 minutes or until done

Remove from pan; Serve hot.
