1 cup chopped dates
1 tsp. Baking soda
1/3 cup butter
1/2 cup brown sugar
1 tsp. Vanilla
2 eggs slightly beaten
11/2 cups flour
1 tsp. Baking powderPinch of salt

SAUCE:
1 cup of brown sugar
1 cup cream
1/3 cup butter
1/2 tsp. Vanilla

Directions:
Directions:
Spray pan with Pam.

Put dates and baking soda in a bowl and add. 1 cup of boiling water. Let stand for 15 minutes.

Beat butter, sugar and vanilla. Add eggs and beat well. Fold in half of the flour, baking powder and salt. Then half of the date mixture. Then stir in remaining flour and dates.

Pour into a pan and bake at 350º for 40 minutes.

SAUCE:
put all ingredients in a saucepan and bring to a boil. Simmer. 5 minutes. Serve over cake.

This is traditionally served over the Christmas holidays. Anytime from thanksgiving on would be great. Be careful not to over bake the cake or it dries out.
