1 1/2 cups sugar
1/2 cup shortening
1 cup mashed (ripe) Bananas (2 or 3)
1/2 cup buttermilk (liquid or powdered)
1 tsp. baking soda
1 1/2 cups flour
3 eggs
1 cup chopped walnuts
1 tsp. vanilla


Chocolate Icing:
1 stick of oleo
2 Tblsp. Cocoa
6 Tblsp. Milk
1 box powdered sugar
1 tsp. vanilla

Directions:
Directions:
Mix the sugar, shortening, bananas, soda and buttermilk together. Then add the flour, eggs, nuts and vanilla. Mix well. Bake in a 9x13 pan at 350º until done. While warm from the oven, cover with chocolate icing.

Icing:
Place oleo, cocoa and milk in a pan on stove. Stirring constantly, bring to boil. Remove from heat and pour over box of powdered sugar. Add vanilla and beat with an electric mixer. Pour over cake while warm.

Personal Notes:
Grandmas original recipe called for a multi-step cooked chocolate icing. My X-generation brain found it way too technical, so I substituted the icing from her sheet cake brownies. The substitution met with grandmas approval and the recipe remains well received at family gatherings.
