Ingredients:
Ingredients:
3/4 c. shortening (1 1/2 sticks butter or oleo)
2 c. sugar
Beat until fluffy
Add 2 eggs, one at a time, beating after each one.

2 1/2 c. flour
2 t. soda
1/2 t. salt
1/2 c cocoa
Sieve dry ingredients together.
1 cup buttermilk. (If you do not have buttermilk, add a small amount of lemon juice to milk. Works fine)
Add dry ingredients and milk alternately to first mixture. Beat until completely mixed. Then stir in
1 cup of hot coffee. If you do not have coffee, hot water will work. When stirring in the hot liquid, mix very slowly at first or you may have to clean your ceiling! Batter will be very thin for a cake, but trust me, it'll be good!

Directions:
Directions:
Pour into a 9 by 13" pan and bake at 350º for about 50 minutes. If using glass pan decrease temperature to 325º.

Personal Notes:
Personal Notes:
This is our old stand-by! I've literally made hundreds of them. Jane wants cream cheese icing on hers. Logan prefers chocolate icing.
I always made one when Georgia came and she and Logan ate it while it was still warm and put butter on it as they ate it.
