Ingredients:  
Ingredients:  
1/2 cup of shortening
1 cup of sugar Creamed together

Add 1 1/2 cups of flour
1/2 tsp. salt

1 tsp. baking powder Mix together to form dough

Add 1/2 tsp. vanilla to the dough.

Spread on cookie sheet. Fold 1 cup brown or white sugar into 1 stiffly beaten egg white. Spread on dough. (Sprinkle with nuts & coconut if desired.)
Bake in 375 degree oven. Cut into squares while hot.

Louise Haardt was the youth sponsor at League City, TX Friends Church in the 1940's and 50's. She gave this recipe to our family (Lewis & Opel Zinn). I really admired Louise. She and I worked also with the church music. She would play the piano and I would lead the singing.
