Ingredients:
Ingredients:
Stale white bread, leftover stale doughnuts or coffee cake, french bread, or similar.
Milk
Water
Eggs
Raisins
Sugar
Cinnamon
Dash of nutmeg
quick dash of cloves
lemon rind
lemon extract

Directions:
Directions:
Cube bread and put in large bowl. Cover with half milk and half water. Let soak until soggy. Squeeze out liquid until almost dry, then discard.
Put bread back into bowl and mix with beaten egg and warm milk. (adjust quantity to amount of bread you are using - I usually use 2 eggs and 1 1/2 to 1 3/4 c milk with enough bread to fill a 1 1/2 qt to 2 qt casserole dish).
Soak raisins in water, then add to bread mixture.
Add sugar to taste, about 1/2 to 3/4 c for above recipe size
Add spices, lemon rind and extract.
Pour into greased casserole dish and set into a pan of hot water, then put both into the oven at 350 degrees until a toothpick in the middle comes out clean and the whole house smells like bread pudding. It should begin to rise in the middle and turn brown slightly on top.
Lemon Sauce:
1 c sugar
1 c water
2 - 3 tbsp cornstarch
1 tbsp butter
1/4 c lemon juice or more if needed
fresh grated lemon rind
Combine sugar and cornstarch in sauce pan. Add water and boil until thick and clear. Remove from heat and add butter, lemon juice and rind. Cool and serve on top of bread pudding.

Personal Notes:
I am not certain of the origin of this recipe, or which "mom" it is referring to in the title. But I have a typed copy in my personal recipe box, so it is something that someone gave to me.
