3 c. cut fresh rhubarb, about 1" pieces
1 tbls. water
3 tbls.cornstarch

BASE:
1 c. sifted flour
1/4 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. soda
1 c. Quaker oats, uncooked
3/4 c. firmly packed brown sugar
1/2 c. butter or margarine, melted
Sweetened whipped cream or ice cream

For Filling: Place rhubarb and water in sauce pan over very low heat. Cook slowly, stirring occasionally, until rhubarb is of sauce consistency. Combine cornstarch with 2 tbls. cold water. Add to rhubarb in pan and cook until thickened, about 10 minutes, stirring frequently.
For Base: Sift together flour, salt and soda. Add oats and sugar, mixing well. Stir in melted butter. Press 2/3 of oats mixture into greased 8 inch square pan. Spoon rhubarb filling evenly over oats mixture.Top with remaining oats mixture, packed lightly. Bake in preheated moderate oven 350º 30 to 35 minutes. Serve warm with whipped cream or ice cream..
