Mix together:
2 c. shortening
2 c. brown sugar
1/4 c. molasses
5 c. flour
8 eggs, well beaten
1 c. sour milk (add 1/4 c. vinegar to sour it)
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. salt

Add:
1 lb. currants
2 lbs. raisins
1 c. walnuts
1/2 lb. mixed peel
1 lb. dates
1 tsp. nutmeg
1 tsp. cloves
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. allspice

Bake at 300º for 3 hours.

This recipe was in mom's recipe box. It is handwritten out by Grandma Esther Summers. I always loved her Christmas fruitcakes and this is the first time I've come across a recipe for it.
