"The tradition of Italian cooking is that of the matriarch. This is the cooking of grandma. She didn't waste time thinking too much about the celery. She got the best celery she could and then she dealt with it."--Mario Batali

7 1/2 c. self-rising flour
4 eggs
4 Tbsp. butter milk
2 sticks butter
2 1/2 c. sugar
1 tsp. vanilla

Directions:
Cream butter and sugar together. Add milk, vanilla and eggs. Beat well. Add half of flour and mix well. Add rest of flour, mix and place in refrigerator over night if possible (can be baked at once). Roll into 1/4" thickness. Cut into desired shapes. Maybe sprinkled with sugar or colored sugar to make sugar cookies. Bake @ 350º until edges are light brown. Do not overcook.

These cookies are great with a thin icing for showers. They stay nice and soft if not overcooked.
