Cake:
1 1/2 cup sugar
1/2 cup crisco
2 eggs
1 tsp salt
2 cups flour
1 cup buttermilk
2 oz red coloring
1 tsp vanilla
1 tbsp vinegar
1 tsp soda
4 rounded tbsp cocoa
Mystery Icing:
4 tbsp flour
1 cup milk
1 cup sugar
1 stick butter
1/2 cup crisco
1/2 tsp vanilla

Cake:
Cream crisco and sugar. Add color, eggs, vanilla. Sift flour, cocoa, salt, 3 times. Alternate dry mix and milk. Mix well. At last minute mix vinegar and soda, fold into batter. Grease and dredge pans. Bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes for 2-9inch pans or 20-25 minutes for 3-9 inch pans.

Mystery Icing:
Blend flour and milk. Cook til thickened to consistency of cream. Cool. Don't chill. Cream sugar, butter, shortening. Add slat and vanilla. Add flour mixture and beat til fluffy.
