3/4 cup shortening
1 cup sugar
1/4 cup Molasses
1 egg
2 tsp baking soda
3 cups flour--spoon lightly into measuring cup
1/2 tsp cloves
1/2 tsp ginger
1 tsp cinnamon
1/2 tsp salt

Directions:
Directions:
Melt shortening in a 3 to 4 quart saucepan over low heat. Remove from heat; let cool about 10-15 minutes. You do not want it to set back up.

Add sugar, molasses and egg; beat well with a large spoon.

Mix together flour, soda, spices and salt. Add to above. Mix well and chill.

Form into 1 inch balls, roll in granulated sugar and place in greased cookie sheet 2 inches apart.

Bake in moderately hot oven at 375 fro 8-10 minutes.
