1 quart powdered milk
1-1/4 cups brown sugar
1/2 cup shortening
1 tablespoon salt
1/2 cup molasses
3 cups rye flour
2 packages of dry yeast
8-10 cups of white all-purpose flour

Optional:
3/4 cup honey + 1/4 cup oil

Directions:
Directions:
Add ingredients, mix and knead well. Let it rise. Place in greased bread pan and bake at 400º for 35-40 minutes.

Rub butter on the top when done.

This came from my Grandma Hulda. There is absolutely nothing like fresh rye bread smothered in melted butter!
