olive oil
1 chopped small onion
3 cloves finely chopped garlic
1 can (35 ounce) Italian whole tomatoes w/basil or add 1/2 tsp. dry .
1/2 can water,
1 - 6 ounce can tomato paste
3 teaspoons sugar
1 teaspoon salt
1 whole bay leaf
1/2 teaspoon oregano.

Directions:
Directions:
Put 2 silver dollar sized drops of olive oil in saucepan.
Brown 1 chopped small onion and 3 cloves finely chopped garlic in oil.
Add 1 can (35 ounce) Italian whole tomatoes w/basil or add 1/2 tsp. dry .
Mash w/potato ricer.
Add 1/2 can water, 1 - 6 ounce can tomato paste, 3 teaspoons sugar, 1 teaspoon salt, 1 whole bay leaf, 1/2 teaspoon oregano.
Sprinkle some Parmesan or Romano cheese to taste.
Simmer 1 - 1 1/2 hrs. with cover ajar.
Stir every so often.

You can find the 35 ounce whole tomatoes w/basil at Kroger's (Cento brand -imported from Italy). Be careful as they also carry a smaller size. You want the 35 ounce can.
This is a very easy to make, delicious sauce from Nancy's Italian father.
