1 1/2 cups flour
1/2 cup shortening
1/4 tsp. salt
1 tsp. baking soda
1 cup sugar
1 tsp. vanilla
1 egg
1/2 cup milk
2 1/2 cups apples, diced
1 cup brown sugar
2 tbsp. butter
3 tsp. flour
2 tsp. cinnamon
1 cup chopped nuts (walnuts or pecans)

Cut flour through shortening. Add the following ingredients: salt, baking powder, baking soda, sugar, vanilla, egg, milk and apples. After it is mixed, pour in a greased 9 x 13 pan. Mix the first 4 topping ingredients together and put on top of the cake batter. Top with the chopped nuts. Bake at 350 for 40 minutes or until toothpick comes out clean.
