2 1/2 c. flour
1/2 t. salt
3/4 c. butter
1 1/4 c. sugar
1 egg
2 t. vanilla

Royal Frosting:
3 egg whites
1/2 t. cream of tartar
1 box powdered sugar

Sift flour and salt. Beat butter, sugar and egg in large bowl until fluffy. Blend in vanilla. Stir in flour mixture to make a stiff dough. Shape into a ball and wrap with plastic wrap and chill 2 hours until firm. Roll dough 1/4 amount at a time on a floured surface and cut in shapes with cookie cutter. Place 1" apart on ungreased cookie sheet and bake at 350 degrees for 8 minutes. Remove from pan and cool before decorating with Royal Frosting.

Royal Frosting: Beat egg whites and cream of tartar until foamy. Slowly beat in sugar until frosting stands in firm peaks. Add desired coloring, frost and decorate cookies.
