1/2 oz. red food coloring
3 tsp cocoa
1/2 cup shortening
1 1/2 cups sugar
2 eggs
1 tsp vanilla
2 1/4 cups cake flour
1 tsp. salt
1 cup buttermilk
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tbsp. vinegar

Frosting
6 tbsp. flour
1 cup milk
1/2 cup butter
1 cup pwd. sugar
1 tsp vanilla

Directions:
Directions:
Make paste of cocoa and food coloring Cream shortening and sugar; add eggs, vanilla and coloring mixture. Sift flour & salt. Add alternately with buttermilk to shortening mixture. Dissolve soda in vinegar and fold in while foaming. Pour into greased and floured pans. Bake 30 minutes at 350.

Frosting: Cook flour and milk until thick. Cool. Cream butter & sugar until fluffy. Add flour mixture after completely cool and beat for several minutes until very fluffy.
