1/2 C molasses
1/2 C HOT water
1/2 tsp baking soda

1/4 C shortening
1 C brown sugar
1 1/2 C flour
1/4 tsp salt
1 tsp cinnamon
Pinch of nutmeg, ginger & ground cloves

9" unbaked pie shell

Preheat oven to 450º

Combine molasses, hot water and baking soda

Mix rest of ingredients to make crumbs

In 9" pie shell layer starting with crumbs, then liquid, crumbs then liquid and tope with crumbs.

Bake at 450º for 15 min. then 350º for 20 min.
