2 1/2 cup flour, 1 tsp cinnamon. 2 tsp powdered ginger, 1 tsp ground cloves, 8 tbsp butter or margarine, 1/2 cup sugar, 1 cup dark molasses, 2 tsp baking soda, 1 cup boiling water, 2 eggs, slightly beaten

Preheat oven to 350º. Grease loaf pan. Combine first four ingredients. Sift together on a piece of wax paper. Set aside. Put butter in a large mixing bowl, beat until creamy. Add sugar and molasses and continue beating until well blended. Combine baking soda and boiling water, add to butter/sugar mixture and beat until batter is smooth. then beat in eggs. Pour into prepared pan. Bake 40 to 45 minutes. Remove from oven and let cool in pan 5 minutes. Turn out on rack
