1 cup Wesson oil, 1 1/2 cup brown sugar - packed firmly, 4 eggs lightly beaten, 2 cups all purpose flour, 1 cup thinly sliced citrons, 1 1/2 cups whole candied cherries, 1 cup chopped candied pineapple, 2 cups chopped dates, 1 cup seedless raisins, 3 cups coarsely chopped pecans or walnuts, 1 tsp baking powder, 2 tsp salt, 2 tsp cinnamon, 2 tsp allspice, 1 tsp powdered cloves, 1 cup fresh orange juice

Method. Heat oven to 275º. Grease four loaf pans. Combine oil, sugar and eggs. and beat 2 minutes. In large bowl combine 1 cup flour with the fruits and nuts. Sift remaining flour with the baking powder, salt and spices. Stir into oil mixture alternating with orange juice. Pour batter over fruit mixture, blend well, turn into prepared pans. Place pan of water on lower rack of oven. Bake cakes approximately 1 1/2 hour. Use clean toothpick to test. Cool on racks; remove from pans; wrap in cheesecloth soaked in brandy

This fruitcake was sent from California every Christmas to the sisters in Massachusetts. Ours always sat on top of the refrigerator and had more brandy poured to keep the cheesecake moistened
