1 cup boiling water
1 cup dates, pitted & chopped
1/4 cup margarine,softened
1 cup sugar
1 egg
1 tsp vanilla extract
1 & 1/2 cups flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 cup chopped walnuts
1 cup flaked cocoanut
2/3 cup packed brown sugar
6 tbsp. margarine
1/4 cup cream

Directions:
Directions:
Pour boiling water over dates in a small bowl, & let stand until cool. Measure flour, baking powder, soda, salt & nuts into a small bowl. Stir to mix. Cream together 1/4 cup margarine & sugar. Beat in egg & vanilla. Add flour mixture to creamed mixture in 3 parts alternately with date mixture in 2 parts,beginning & ending with dry mixture. Spread batter in greased & floured 9x13" pan.Bake at 350º for 30-40 min. or until a toothpick inserted in center comes out clean. To make topping:
Mix cocoanut, brown sugar, 6 tbsp. margarine & cream in a small saucepan overr medium heat. Boil for 3 min. Spread over warm cake & brown under broiler.
