1/2 cup shortening
1 1/2 cups brown sugar
1 egg
1 tsp baking soda
1 cup applesauce
2 cups flour
1 tsp nutmeg
1 tsp salt
1 tsp cinnamon
1/2 tsp clove
1 cup raisins

Directions:
Directions:
Cream shortening, sugar and egg tog. Dissolve soda in applesauce add to creamed mixture. Mix flour, salt and spices tog. Add to first mixture and blend well. Add raisins. Bake in a greased 8 inch pan or loaf pan in a moderate oven 350º. Bake 45 minutes for a square pan or 1 hour for a loaf pan

Cab be made with or without baking soda. I like it better without soda. Cool and split in half lengthwise. Fill the center with whipped heavy cream and replace the top add more whipped cream. Cut into small pieces because this dessert is very rich!
