Crust: 1/2 c.soft butter, 1/4 c. granulated sugar, 1/2 tsp. vanilla, 1 c. all-purpose flour.

Cream Cheese Filling: 1 pkg. (8 oz.) cream cheese, 1/4 c. granulated sugar, 1 egg, 1/2 tsp. vanilla.

Apple Filling: 4 c. thinly sliced apples, 1/2 tsp. cinnamon, 2/3 c. granulated sugar

Crust: Beat first three ingredients well with mixer. Gradually add flour, until mixture forms soft dough. Press into bottom and up sides of a deep 9 inch pie pan.
Cream Cheese Filling: Beat until smooth. Spread evenly over crust.
Apple Filling: Layer evenly over cream cheese mixture. Dot with 1 tbsp. butter. Sprinkle with 1/2 cup chopped pecans or hickory nuts. Bake at 400º for 15 minutes, lower heat to 350 and bake an additional 30 minutes, or until apples are done. If apples are getting too brown, cover with foil.

I use Mackintosh apples. Also, I grease and lightly flour the pan to prevent sticking.
I had cut this recipe out of the newspaper. Since it said it was "Pennsylvania Blue Ribbon Apple Pie", it had to be a winner!
