Ingredients: Part I 4 cups all-purpose flour 1 1/2 t. baking powder 1 T. salt 5 cups granulated sugar 2 cups cocoa 2 cups shortening Part II 3 cups Big Brownie Mix 3 large eggs 2 tsp. vanilla 2 cups (12 oz.) semisweet chocolate morsels 1/2 cups chopped pecans or walnuts 1/4 cup water

Directions:Mix all above dry ingredients in large bowl. Cut in shortening with pasty blender until mixture is crumbly. Store in air-tight container up to 6 weeks or 6 months in freezer. For Plain Brownies: Combine dry brownie mix with other ingredients in Part II. Pour into 9" greased square baking dish. Bake in preheated oven to 350º for 35 minutes. Cool; cut into squares (16). |

Notes: Other Variations: MIlk Chocolate Brownies: Substitute 11 1/2 oz. pkg milk chocolate morsels for semi-sweet; omit nuts. Candy Bar Brownies: Substitute 2 (7 oz) chocolate coated caramel peanut bars; omit semisweet morsel and nuts. Peanut Butter Brownies: Substitute 12 peanut butter cup candies, chopped; omit semisweet morsels and nuts. Mint Brownies: Substitute 4.67 oz pkg.. thin chocolate-mint candies for morsels; omit nuts. Peppermint Topped Brownies: Prepare plaint brownie mix; arrange 5.3 oz pkg. chocolate-coated peppermint patties on top of warm brownies after cooking; spread when slightly melted.
