2 c granulated sugar
2 c self-rising flour
1 c butter
1/2 c shortening
1/2 c baking cocoa
1/2 c buttermilk
1 tsp baking soda
2 eggs, slightly beaten
2 tsp vanilla extract
1/3 c buttermilk
4-3/4 c sifted powdered sugar
1 c chopped pecans

Preheat oven to 350º. In medium bowl stir together granulated sugar and flour; set aside.

In medium saucepan bring 1 cup water, 1/2 cup of the butter, shortening and 1/4 cup of the cocoa to a boil. Stir in eggs and 1 teaspoon of the vanilla. Pour into greased 15x10x1-inch baking pan. Bake for 20-25 minutes or until wooden toothpick inserted near center comes out clean. Cool on wire rack while preparing frosting.

For frosting, in medium saucepan combine remaining 1/2 cup butter, remaining 1/4 cup cocoa and the 1/3 cup buttermilk. Bring just to a boil. Remove saucepan from heat. Stir in powdered sugar, remaining 1 teaspoon vanilla and pecans. Pour frosting over warm cake. Let cool.
