1 cup sugar
3/4 cup shortening (1/2 Crisco & 1/2 butter)
1 egg
4 T molasses (green label-Brer Rabbit)
2 cups flour(need not to sift before measuring)
1 1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. cinnamon
2 T. Crystallized Ginger ( cut fine)

Cream together shortening & sugar. Add egg. Mix well & add molasses. Sift flour, salt, & spices together. Add stir in cut up ginger. Chill about 1 hour & shape into balls & roll in powdered sugar. Place on lightly greased cookie sheet & flatten gently with a fork. Bake 375º oven 10-15 minutes.
