2 c. sifted flour
1/2 tsp. soda
dash salt
1/2 c. shortening
2/3 c. brown sugar (firmly packed)
1/3 c. white sugar
1 egg, well beaten
2 sq. unsweetened chocolate, melted (or 4 T. cocoa)
1/2 c. milk
1 tsp. vanilla
1/2 c. walnuts

Directions:
Directions:
Sift flour, soda, and salt together twice (also cocoa if it is used). Cream shortening and sugar, add egg and chocolate and beat well. Add flour, etc. alternately with milk. Beat after each addition until smooth. Add vanilla, nuts and mix. Drop by teaspoon on greased baking sheet. Bake in moderate oven 350º or 375º about 7 minutes. Frost if desired.
