Mom's Helpful Hints as she wrote them

Directions:
Directions:
If dishes are cracked, but not broken, boil in milk and crack will be filled.

To clean white shoes if you are out of polish, use milk in same was as you would the polish.

To clean yellow piano keys, wipe off with alcohol, if very yellow use cologne water.

When zipper sticks, rub a pencil up and down on it. Vaseline is OK too, but may make a spot.

If shoe is tight in one spot, put hot cloth on it for a little while.

To take shine off of clothes, brush with warm vinegar, then press with cloth on top until not quite dry.

Washing chenille spread, hang on line with wrong side out so chenille will rub against each other. It will be more fluffy.

A little cocoa added to pumpkin pie adds flavor and color.

If gravy isn't brown, add a little leftover coffee - 2 or 3 tablespoons. Coffee won't taste.

A little vanilla sprinkled on top of apples with cinnamon or nutmeg before putting on top crust of apple pie, adds more flavor.

To wash woolen blankets. In warm or lukewarm water, put in soap and turn on washer till its dissolved. Then put in blanket and let soak about 15 or 20 minutes. With your hands turn it around once or twice ;during this time. Then drain off as much water as you can. Then put in rinse water of same temperature and soak again and rinse again the same way. Do not wring. Hang over 2 lines and let dry. When dry brush with a brush. Probably have to have help to hang wet blanket on line.

Steel wool will take crayola off wallpaper.

Crayola on walls can be taken off with cleaning fluid.

Grease on walls - use blotter and warm iron.

Put layer of soap on burns.
