6 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted, plus butter for baking dish.
1 cup cornmeal
3/4 cup all-purpose flour
4 tablespoons sugar
1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoons baking soda
1/4 teaspoon salt
2 large eggs. lightly beaten
1 1/2 cups buttermilk

Directions:

Preheat oven to 425º F. lightly grease an 8 inch baking dish.
In a large bowl, mix together cornmeal, flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, & salt.
In a separate bowl mix the eggs, buttermilk, & butter.
Pour the buttermilk mixture into the cornmeal mixture and fold together until there are no dry spots (batter will be lumpy.)
Pour the batter into the prepared baking dish.
Bake until the top is golden brown and center springs back with touch of a finger, about 20 to 25 minutes.
let cool for 10 minutes before serving.

You can cut back on the sugar to 1 or 2 tablespoons if you do not like a sweet corn bread.
It makes a cake like bread, and not so much a corn mealy taste.
