1 pkg dry yeast
1/2 cup water
1 T. Sugar

1 cup water
1/2 cup canned milk (evaporated milk)

2 well beaten eggs
1/3 cup melted lard
1 tsp. salt
1/3 cup sugar
2 cups flour

3 additional cups flour (plus )

Directions:
1. Dissolve yeast in 1/2 water & 1 T sugar.
2. Heat 1 cup water, 1/2 cup canned milk, This should be quite warm.
3. To this add eggs, lard, salt, & 1/3 Cup sugar.
4.Stir well and then add yeast mixture.
5. Stir until all lumps are out and then add about 3 cups more flour (or enough to make a soft dough.)
6. Then knead til real smooth. The more you knead the better.
7. Let raise in warm place til double in bulk.
8.Then form into kolaches or rolls.
9.Bake 400º oven (no time was given, (10-15 minutes)
This recipe can be easily doubled or tripled

One batch should make about 3 doxen Kolaches depending on the size.

Mrs. Young was Gram Scherrebeck's neighbor on Second Street. She lived in the Large Hank Miller Apartment building. She had outlived two husbands and her children. She was always so very grateful for anyone to stop and talk with her, she could easily go into tears because she was so touched by kindness.
