1/2 cup milk
butter the size of and egg (2 ounces)
1 1/2 lbs. light brown sugar
3 tbls. condensed milk
1 pound chopped nuts (walnut, pecan)
1 tsp. vanilla

Directions:
Directions:
Let butter and milk come to a boil over medium heat, then add sugar, boil until it thickens when put in cold water. Take from fire, add nuts and beat with a large fork until it is very stiff and creamy. Pour in buttered pan, cut when cool.

This recipe is older than the other the penuche recipe in this cookbook and was probably cooked on a woodstove.
