2 Tbsp white sugar
2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 cup butter, cubed
3/4 cup chopped walnuts
1/2 cup raisins
3/4 cup buttermilk
2 Tbsp buttermilk

In a large bowl combine flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, salt. With a pastry blender cut in butter until mixture resembles coarse meal, mix in nuts and raisins. Mix in buttermilk with fork Gather the dough into a ball and knead for about 2 minutes on lightly floured board Roll or pat out into a circle about 3/4 inch thick,brush top with the buttermilk, sugar and chopped walnuts, cut into eight wedges, place on greased baking sheet about an inch apart. Bake at 425º for about 15 minutes.

Sometimes I leave out the raisins and nuts, and add chopped white chocolate and raspberries, and then sprinkle the top with raw sugar. Also I always use my food processor to prepare the dough.
