3 large eggs
1/3 cup sugar
2 cups milk
1/4 tsp salt
1/4 tsp nutmeg
1 tsp cinnamon
2 tbsp melted butter
1/2 tsp vanilla
2 cups cubed 1/2 inch dry bread
2 cups sliced apples

Directions:
Directions:
To dry bread, bake in preheated oven at 275º for 10 mins. turning occasionally. Beat eggs, sugar, milk, salt, spices, vanilla, and one tbsp of butter. Add bread, mix well. Pour into 1 1/2 quart buttered casserole dish. Dip apple slices in remaining butter and arrange slices on top. Set casserole in a larger baking pan and place in oven, preheated to 350º. Fill second larger pan 3/4 way with water. Bake uncovered about one hour or until inserted toothpick comes out clean
