Ingredients:
Ingredients:
1 ½ lbs unsalted butter (room temp)
¾ lb powdered sugar
2 eggs
1 ½ tsp baking powder
5-6 cups sifted flour
1 lb extra powdered sugar
Whole cloves (optional)

Directions:
Directions:
Beat the butter well, gradually adding the ¾ lb powdered sugar. Add the eggs, one at a time, beating well after each one. Add baking powder and enough of the flour to make a soft, but not sticky dough. Dough should be firm enough to stay together if molded by hand. Take pieces of dough the size of a walnut and shape into desired shapes. Some people make boomerang shapes, S shapes, circles, diamonds, or ovals. If desired, place one clove in the center of each cookie (I leave out this step). Place cookies on an ungreased cookie sheet and bake in a 350 oven for 10-15 min. Don’t let them overbrown. When you remove them from the oven immediately sprinkle liberally with powdered sugar (I use a strainer), and allow to cool.

Every Greek woman makes them this way, so not sure who to give credit. Patricia Coukos, Athena Pappas, Demetra Kress; the women I learned from.
