"Plain fresh bread, its crust shatteringly crisp. Sweet cold butter. There is magic in the way they come together in your mouth to make a single perfect bite."--Ruth Reichl

Directions:
Bake Chocolate cake according to mix. Set aside to cool.
CREAM FILLING: Gradually add milk to flour in small saucepan. Heat over low flame until it forms a thick paste. Cool. Put shortening, sugar and salt in a small bowl. Add cooked paste. Beat at high speed until light and fluffy, 3 - 5 minutes. Add vanilla. (The more you beat it the fluffier it gets.)
CHOCOLATE ICING: Combine butter, cocoa and Coca-cola. Heat to boiling and pour over powdered sugar and pecans. Mix well and allow to cool a little.
PUT IT TOGETHER: When layers are cooled, cut in half horizontally, making four layers out of two. Fill layers with white cream filling and frost top and sides with chocolate icing.

Personal Notes:
This is like a giant King Don. Aunt Flo got me one for my birthday for years from the Donut Man. This is definitely a favorite. Very hard to find this recipe. One big hint - when it says cool, be sure you COOL. My first attempt tasted good, but my icing ran all down the cake into the plate, on to the counter.
