2 cups sifted all purpose flour
4 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon cream of tartar
2 teaspoon sugar
1/2 cup shortening
2/3 cup milk

Directions:
Directions:
Sift together flour, baking powder, salt, cream of tartar and sugar. Cut in shortening until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Add milk all at once and stir with fork only until dough follows fork around bowl. Turn out dough on lightly floured surface. Knead gently for 30 seconds. Pat or roll into 1/2 inch thick and cut with biscuit cutter. Bake on ungreased cookie sheet at 450 degrees for 10 to 12 minutes.
