Ingredients: 3 cups bleached all purpose flour 1/4 teaspoon salt 1 teaspoon baking soda 2 teaspoons ground ginger 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg 1/4 teaspoon ground gloves 3/4 cup firmly packed brown sugar 12 tablespoons unsalted butter 1/2 cup unsulfured molasses (preferably Grandma's) 1 large egg

Directions:In an electric mixer soften butter and cream with brown sugar until fluffy. In a separate bowl sift together flour, salt, baking soda, spices, and mix evenly. Add molasses and egg to butter mixture and beat until blended. On low speed gradually add flour mixture. Scrape dough onto plastic wrap and use wrap (not fingers) to press dough into a thick flat disk. Wrap well and refrigerate for at least two hours.
Preheat over to 350 degrees. Roll out dough to desired thickness and cut with gingerbread cutters. Place one inch apart on baking sheet and bake for 8 to 10 minutes depending on size of cookie. Cool for one minute and decorate while still warm. My favorite decoration is chocolate chips. |
