Mix into a paste:

Fresh cut basil
Touch of olive oil

Directions:
Amounts of pesto cheese mixture are not exact. Using a small bowl - I trusted my culinary instincts to proportion the mixture of pesto, nuts, mascarpone, and parmesan. Lots of test tasting!

For topping: Cut up the tomatoes with basil, and olive oil in a small bowl.
Cut baguettes into thin slices. Brush each side lightly with olive oil. Lightly toast under broiler -keep center of bread soft. Watch for fast burning! That's why it is good to have 2 baguettes!
Remove from broiler and spread with pesto mixture and top with diced tomatoes. Top with sharp Parmesan cheese shavings (good indicator of when done).
Return to low broil. Remove when cheese is melted and slightly browned on edges.

Personal Notes:
I used commercially prepared pesto and experimented with the amount of other ingredients. I made this crostini at a party just for appetizer and could not keep up with the demand for more!
