2 c unsifted all purpose flour
2 tsp baking soda
1 tsp cinnamon
1/2 tsp allspice
1/2 tsp nutmeg
1/4 tsp cloves
1/4 tsp salt
1 c light brown sugar packed
1/2 c soft butter
2 c hot applesauce
1 c chopped dates
3/4 c coarsely chopped walnuts
2 eggs

Cream Cheese Frosting:
3 oz cream cheese soft
1 T butter
1 tsp vanilla
2 c sifted confectioner's sugar

Directions:
Directions:
Mix all dry ingredients. Add eggs, brown sugar, soft butter, and 1 c hot applesauce. Beat until ingredients are combined plus 2 minutes. Add remaining applesauce, dates, walnuts and beat 1 minute. Pour batter into greased floured 9x9 pan. Bake 50 minutes at 350º, or until done. Let cool in pan for 10 minutes. Remove from pan and cool on wire rack. Frost top and sides with cream-cheese frosting.

Frosting:
mix cream cheese, butter, and vanilla in mixer until smooth and fluffy. Gradually add confectioner's sugar and continue beating until fluffy.
