3/4 c. shortening
2 c. sugar
6 eggs, separated and beaten
2 c. blackberry jam
4 c. all purpose flour
1/2 tsp. salt
2 tsp. soda, mixed with buttermilk
2 tsp. cinnamon
2 tsp. allspice
2 tsp. cloves
1 c. buttermilk
1 1/2 c. raisins
1 c. chopped nuts

Directions:
Directions:
Cream sugar and shortening, add beaten egg yolks, then Jam and sifted dry ingredients, alternating with milk, beating well after each addition. Add raisins and nuts. Fold in beaten egg whites. Pour in three 9 inch pans. Bake at 350 degrees for 45 minutes. Use a toothpick to test. May require a few more minutes.
