1 sm bag pinto beans
1 lb smoked sausage - chopped well
1 1/2 t crushed red peppers
1/2 t. ground cayenne pepper
1 1/2 t black pepper
1 T chili powder
2 t garlic salt
Water
*change the spices to fit your own taste. You can make the beans hotter, spicier or milder.

Rinse the beans very well in warm water, then soak 1 hr in cool water in large stock pot.

Fill the pot with lots of water but not s much hat it will boil over the edges. Add spices and bring to a slow boil. This takes a few hours and you will need to stir and add water as the water boils down.
About 1 hr before you are ready to serve, add the chopped smoked sausage. Turn down to a medium simmer. Add water if you want them thinner or cook the water down when they are done if want them thicker.
