1 c. crisco
1 1/2 c. sugar
5 eggs
6 c. flour
1 tsp. salt
5 tsp. baking pwder
1 1/2 tsp. almond extract
2 8 oz. jars marachino cherries with juice
1/2 - 1 c. nuts optional

Directions:
Directions:
Cream Crisco a\& sugar. Add eggs, cherry juice & extract. Add dry ingrediants, mixing well. Add cut up cherries & nuts. Divide dough into 6 balls. Shape each ball into a log, flatten slightly and brush top of log with beaten egg. Bake 15 -20 mins at 350 degrees.
When cool,frost each log with icing made from 2 c.confectioners sugar, 4-5 tbsp. milk & 2 tsp. almond extract. If desired add 1 or 2 drops of red food coloring to make pink icing.
NOTE: I always add another handful of cherries, so that the slices are loaded with cherries.
