3 cups all purpose flour
1 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp soda
1 tsp nutmeg
1/2 cup shortening
1 cup sugar
1 egg
1 egg yolk
1/2 cup sour cream
1/2 tsp vanilla
1/2 tsp lemon extract

Directions:
Directions:
Sift flour, measure, add baking powder, salt, soda and nutmeg. and sift twice again. Cream shortening and add sugar gradually, continuing to cream until well blended. Add the egg and the egg yolk and beat until fluffy. Combine sour cream with vanilla and lemon extract and add to the creamed mixture alternately with the sifted dry ingredients, beating well after each addition. Chill about 1/2 hour. Roll out on lightly floured board and cut with cookie cutter. Place on greased cookie sheet. Brush tops of cookies with unbeaten egg white and sprinkle generously with sugar. Bake in hot over about 8 minutes. ( I am guessing that this means about 400 degrees).
